Before and after: more trash to treasure

13 Apr

The trash collector is baaackk!  I just can’t help myself.  I found this chair along with four others on the side of the road back in the fall.  After nearly creating a massive car pileup when I slammed on the brakes to get to these “gorgeous” chairs I crammed them into my car and headed home.  I had a vision for each one to be an individual piece.  I love the idea of ‘artistic furniture‘.  I think it’s a great way to combine the arts and interior design.  Who wouldn’t want a one of a kind artistic designer furniture piece in their home?  My biggest obstacle was convincing my husband that I could make these beautiful and that I am in fact NOT a hoarder.

This chair was one of the more difficult redesign pieces I’ve ever done.  The seat cushion was covered in pea grean cordouroy and lined with upholstery nail heads.  After prying all the nail heads off I removed the “desigherable” green upholstery.  I primed the chair with white primer and then painted it a semi-gloss white.  Because of the dark colored wood I did three coats of paint.

When the paint was dry I covered the seat with fabric batting and this great black and white fabric.  I went with the original design and covered the seat all around and stapled it from underneath.  It was hard to get the fabric around the opening in the back but I think I did alright for my first time.

Although this project was time intensive I am thrilled with the way it turned out.  As for my husband, I think it’s growing on him.  This piece is for sale and listed at $50.00 email amanda@sunflowercreationsonline.com if you have questions about this chair or design in general.  Thanks for reading!  XOXO
