Highlights of a Home Stager: The Roxborough Row

16 Nov

When it comes to row homes awkward spaces and small bedrooms are always a hurdle, and this Roxborough Row was no exception. While it had some challenges, it was nothing our team couldn’t handle!

Many row homes have these notches in the walls where the chimney was built. An awkward notch out in a living room wall can seem like a deal breaker to potential buyers. We used a layout that proves a notch doesn’t have to be overly intrusive.

The owners wanted a modern feel for this home. A black and red color scheme along with some key modern fixtures, the bent wood dining chairs and the red streamlined sofa, give in a fresh young look.

Small bedrooms are always a concern in row homes. Without any furniture, buyers are left to wonder if small rooms can realistically be used as a bedroom. A day bed and a desk placed strategically show the potential a small space has to offer.

Interior Design Philadelphia: Drapery Selection

7 Feb

Hidden tab panels

Hey there lovely readers!  In an effort to keep this blog as diverse as our design business we will begin adding some interior design posts in addition to our regular posts about home staging.

As a designer there are certain decor issues that drive me crazy.  Top of the list, short curtains!  A curtain that rises above the baseboard is like pants that rise above socks.  Otherwise known as floods!  Fret not, if you are suffering from flood curtains I’m here to give you some tips on selecting and hanging curtains that will add drama and beauty to your space.

For starters it’s important to measure your wall from floor to ceiling.  Next you want to select your drapes making sure the length is the same as the height of the wall.  There are several types and styles of drapes to choose from.  Here’s a little cheat sheet to help with your selection:

  • Grommet top: a more casual, contemporary look.  Easy to slide open and closed.
  • Hidden tab: a elegant, classic look.  The back tabs create soft pleats in the front of the panels.
  • Pole pocket: traditional look.  The pole runs through the curtain scrunching the fabric at the top of the pole.
  • Ring top: can got traditional or modern depending on the hardware.  Rings clip to the top of the fabric also easy to slide open.

Rod pocket

Hanging your curtain hardware will depend on how high you can hang it without the curtains raising above the floor.  I highly recommend hanging the rod as high as possible.  Floor to ceiling drapes make a room look bigger and more dramatic.  Your drapes should just brush the floor and  a little puddling is okay.  If too much fabric gathers at the floor you will need to hem the drapes.  Don’t sew, don’t worry!  Hem tape works wonders and all you need is an iron!

I hope this helps!  If you need help with your interior design project email amanda@sunflowercreationsonline.com and for a list of our services visit our services link on the blog home page.

East Falls home staging Philadelphia

17 Apr

It’s been a busy few weeks but I had to get back to the blogging board to show you this cute property in East Falls.  If you don’t know about East Falls it’s an adorable little community bordering Roxborough and Center City.  Walking distance to Kelly Drive (a great place to run and bike) as well as one of my favorite pubs East Falls Taproom (amazing veggie burger!).

I staged the living room, dining room, kitchen and spare bedroom in this three bedroom row near Henry Ave.  Take a look:
