Fitler Square Home Staging

11 Apr

What a beautiful day!  80 degrees and sunny…I’ll take it.  I’m inspired by this day to share a beautiful sunny town home in the Fitler Square area of Philadelphia.  As many of you know spring is the busy season for real estate and home stagers.  So I’m a little behind on my posts but bear with me I’ll make sure you get to see all of them (and there are alot)!

This property was such a joy to stage.  I love homes that have a charming character.  This 2br/1bath town home is the perfect starter home for a young couple or a new graduate in the Philadelphia area.

Here’s what we did to show off the best features of this home.

Today is a rainy dreary day.  Strangely enough I quite enjoy days like this.  To me it is an excuse to work in sweat pants (not me, I would never) and to slack off a little.  Not to mention hot tea is so much better on days like today.  Despite the weather I can’t help but feel so blessed.

When things aren’t going our way it’s easy to forget how great our lives really are.  I was really humbled yesterday after reading Deserving Decor’s blog post.  They discussed the issue of child homelessness in our country and highlighted a 60 minutes segment on the issue.    If you have time take a look.

I think homelessness resonates with me because I understand the role a home plays in our lives.  I spend so much of my time helping people create environments where they can call home, spend time with family/friends,  lay their heads at night and feel most comfortable.  So the idea of not having a place to call your home, especially as a vulnerable child is heart wrenching to me.    Just something I’ve been thinking about that I felt compelled to share.

I also wanted to share some photos of one of the two (see Queens Village Home Staging) stagings from last week.  This is the property featured on KYW.  It’s ground up new construction located in South Philadelphia and let me tell you it is DECKED OUT!  These builders pulled out all the stops.  We’re talking maple hardwood throughout, finished basement, wine cooler, EP Henry patio,  an unbelievable master bath and a 600 sq roof deck with views of the city, lights and electric.  Yeah, I KNOW.

Trust me, if I could buy it…I would.  My favorite part about this property the kitchen.  Maybe it’s because I got to pick the back splash :)   Take a look around and if you want to buy it (and let me live with you) shoot me an email amanda@sunflowercreationsonline.com

Roxborough Home Staging

1 Mar

This is a little over due and I’m pooped after another start to a crazy week.  But I had to share one of my stagings from last week.  This is a super cute rehab in Roxborough that I had the pleasure of staging.  The investor did a great job and the kitchen back splash…to-die-for.  Check it out!

Trash-to-treasure: 60′s style dresser

18 Jun

Ok so let me start by saying I am in love with this dresser.  I found this at a local thrift store and there was no way I was leaving without it.  I had pictured something this style for our dining room buffet.  I’ve been really drawn to this style of furniture that ‘floats’ off the ground.  In a house our size I think it helps to keep furniture from ‘sitting’ on the floor so it doesn’t start to look heavy or cramped.

Interestingly enough I really liked the finish.  If it were for our dining room which is painted a pale beige (shelter cove: behr) I might have considered leaving it as is.  However I planned on putting it in our back bedroom which is already painted a dark brown (morrocan brown: sherwin williams).  After some thought I knew what I wanted to do, but like most everything I do it wasn’t going to be easy!

I pictured an almond color with pale greyish blue zebra stripes.  Hmm now how was I going to do that?  I checked online and Michaels for zebra stencils until I decided to create the stripes by hand.  I drew the pattern on sticker paper that I found at Staples .  When I realized how time intensive this project was going to be I decided to only do the top in zebra print.

The first step was to remove all the hardware, legs and sand the entire dresser.  Then I painted it my base color (Rhino: Behr).  I did about three coats, let it dry completely and then started on the top.  In order to do the top I had to cover the rest of the dresser in plastic to avoid over spray.  I peeled off all the pre drawn stickers, stuck them to the top and sprayed the top in a high gloss almond spray.  I also sprayed the legs and hardware a matching metalic silver.  To finish it all off and make sure it was sealed I added a min wax poly seal.

This looks so much better in our guest bedroom than our old furniture!  I love this dresser because of it’s youthful retro 60′s feel.  What do you think?

Have a project you need help with email amanda@sunflowercreationsonline.com I’d love to help!
